Apple Vision Pro Doesn’t Make Sense Yet… And That’s Okay By: Breana Blackman

To disrupt the AR and VR scene Apple does exactly that. Last week, Apple's Vision Pro made its market debut, with over 600,000 orders successfully delivered the headset wasn’t even out in the wild for a day and we had folks performing all kinds of stunts with the infamous headset on. From driving a Tesla and crossing city streets. Users were in an absolute rush to strut and show off the headset and not in the safest ways either.

Despite the costly rate of the Vision Pro, this device tackles virtual reality and augmented reality like no other on the market currently. I don’t think there’s any denying that. While the Meta Quest 3 focuses more on gaming the Vision Pro wants to be more a part of your daily life. Want to cook shrimp alfredo but aren’t too sure about the measurements? The Apple Vision Pro has features that allow you to pin videos onto the very four walls of your kitchen. With a 12 millisecond delay the Vision Pro offers a virtually lag-free real-time view of the world according to Apple themselves. The Meta Quest 3 is the stepsibling Apple never asked for.

I don’t know a single soul in my network that purchased the Apple Vision Pro and I think I know why…. The price point is by no means affordable, so this is truly a luxurious purchase. For the price of one Apple Vision Pro, you can purchase seven Meta Quest 3 headsets. Wild right? The price of the Vision Pro is practically a semester at a community college. This raises a lot of eyebrows who is this product for. What does it do, and this is necessary?

Apple doesn’t want the Vision Pro to be labeled a virtual reality headset. Instead, Apple is marketing this headset as a spatial computing assistant. Vision Pro does just that, allowing you to interact with your MacBook as a second monitor. Some might say this is a glorified iPad. Over 600 apps have been built for the device at launch yet, features like Netflix and YouTube are missing. Other VR headsets exist with these two main applications which leaves people to believe Apple swung and missed with this one. It’s clear that this device is just getting started and has a lot of work to be done to prove to Apple users that this is a device that they need. Jordan Wilson from Everyday Ai said it best, “The Apple Vision Pro is a Sutu solution looking for a problem.”
