Iowa’s Caitlin Clark intends to enter the 2024 WNBA Draft By: Zain Bando
Record-setting Iowa women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark took to social media to make the next step of her basketball career official Thursday.
“While this season is far from over, and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one at Iowa. I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA Draft,” Clark wrote across Instagram and ‘ X .’ “It is impossible to fully express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me during my time at Iowa – my teammates, who made the last four years the best; my coaches, trainers, and staff who always let me be me; Hawkeye fans who filled Carver every night; and everyone who came out to support us across the country, especially the young kids. Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without my family and friends who have been by my side through it all. Because of all of you, my dreams came true.”
Clark, who wears No. 22 on the court and just turned 22 in January, have the Hawkeyes on a collision course to contend for a national title once again. They fell to LSU and Angel Reese in last year’s NCAA women’s finale, making their 2024 March Madness appearance a potential revenge tour.
Ultimately, Clark made the best decision for her, and who could blame her? She decided to stay home and play for Iowa when she, realistically, could have gone to any major program in the nation. She made women’s basketball fun again, set several television ratings across six major networks and sold out every road arena she played in.
No one is like her, and arguably, no one will be ever again. She changed basketball for the better, and she’s someone I will happily tell my kids about one day. The WNBA will be in better hands with her, and if done the right way, people will care about women’s hoops just like its NBA counterpart.
