Kevin Maxen Makes History - The Coming Out Story Of Kevin Maxen By: Jennifer Kate

Ok, I'm back with another sports-based LGBTQIA story for you guys. This story was a recent one about Jacksonville Jaguars strength and conditioning coach Kevin Maxen who is making history by becoming the first male coach in professional sports in the United States to come out as gay publicly.

Now let me tell you Kevin Maxen's story; then, i will address why this is a massive step for the LGBTQIA community. Kevin Maxen is the strength and conditioning coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's Maxen's second season with the Jaguars. Maxen previously worked for the Baylor Bears and the Vanderbilt Commodores', two college teams.

Kevin Maxen had an interview with Outsports, a sports interview website. Maxen told Outsports that he wanted to be honest with who he was in hopes that others would do the same. Maxen also told the sports outlet, "I don't want to feel i have to think about it anymore" Maxen went on to say, "I don't want to feel like i have to lie about who i am seeing, or why i am living with someone else." He says more about how he wants to support how people want to live.

The one thing he said during this interview with this sports outlet that stood out to me was the line, "I just want to live and not feel fear about how people will react." That line speaks volumes about how fear and worry about how people will view you or react can stop people from being themselves and living life as they should be: happy and free.

In a certain way, I can relate to that particular line that Kevin Maxen said in that interview because if some of you read the blog i wrote about my coming out story, I was afraid of people judging me or my family not being supportive of my sexuality.

Now this story is not only an important story and an absolute breakthrough for the four major league sports but also for the LGBTQIA community as well because younger people may look up to people like Kevin Maxen, and his story may inspire others to come out and not be afraid to be who they are. As I said, I can relate to that line that Kevin Maxen said and know I am not alone in feeling that way. This story could help many young people who are into sports and have been struggling to tell their coming out stories to tell their story which, in theory, can lead to another person coming out and so on. This story is so inspiring, and I wish Kevin Maxen a life of happiness and the feeling of being free.

I think that it wraps it up for this blog. I hope you guys learned something from this blog and came away from this blog feeling inspired the way I did while writing this blog.
