NFL News: B.J. Thompson Saved by Teammate Harrison Butker By Grant Winsauer
The Kansas City Chiefs had to cancel practice on Friday because B.J. Thompson suffered a seizure and heart attack right before it started.
However, thanks to teammate Harrison Butker's awareness, he ran to get the trainers before Thompson lost his life.
According to Ari Meirov, Thompson is recovering well and has since reached the hospital to receive further attention. I’m sure all his teammates have him in their prayers right now because that is one hell of a tragedy to go through. I don’t think his teammates are thinking about football right now. All they want is for him to recover and be healthy for the start of the season.
Thompson, 25, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, according to NFL.com. He didn’t get much playing time last year, only appearing in one game, where he got two tackles. With how good the Chiefs are on offense and defense; it isn’t surprising that he didn’t play often.
The question I have now is, because of what happened, how much playing time will he get in the future? I know that it is early in the offseason, and we have about a month and a half until training camp, but suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest is serious.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Andy Reid and the Chiefs staff ramp him up slower than usual after he returns to football if he returns at all.
Either way, I’m sure that Thompson will make the best decision for himself, whether returning to football or stepping away from it to focus on his health. Regardless of his decision, Chiefs fans and the rest of the world will respect it.
