NFL News: Caleb Williams is Locked Into Bears Rookie Contract By Grant Winsauer

NFL

According to Adam Schefter, Caleb Williams signed his rookie contract worth $39 million with a signing bonus of $25.5 million Tuesday.

For all the people worried about him not signing because he didn’t have an agent, there was never anything to worry about. I believe Williams and Odunze waited to sign their rookie contracts in front of the cameras for “Hard Knocks.”

Now, the Bears go into training camp with their whole rookie class signed to their rookie contracts, and the Bears can focus on developing the rookies for the speed of the NFL.

I can honestly say that I think this is the first training camp where there isn’t any drama headed into it. Williams has no competition ahead of him, and even if he did, with him being the No. 1 draft pick, it would surprise many people if he wasn’t the starter (which has already been clarified by Matt Eberflus that he is the starter).

Williams walks into one of the best No. 1 situations for any quarterback to walk into. I say this because he has a great trio of wide receivers, including D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. The Bears also have a great duo at tight end, including Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett.

According to sportsreference.com, During Williams’ time in college, he completed 735 passes on 1,099 attempts for 10,082 passing yards with 93 passing touchdowns to only 14 interceptions and another 966 yards rushing with 27 additional touchdowns on the ground.

The Bears have yet to have a 4,000-yard passer for their franchise, and I don’t want to say that I believe Williams will get it this year, but with the talent that he has around him, I think he will get very close to 4,000 passing yards, and I think I can speak for all Bears fans: We are happy that this contract is taken care of.
