NFL News: David Johnson hangs up his cleats By Grant Winsauer
David Johnson has decided after an eight-year career it is time for him to hang up his cleats and spend more time with his family.
The Arizona Cardinals drafted Johnson in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. According to ESPN.com, during his eight-year career, he played in 92 games and had 1007 total carries for 4,071 rushing yards and 39 rushing touchdowns. On the receiving side, he had 277 receptions on 400 targets for 2,805 yards and another 18 touchdowns.
His best season, a testament to his skill and dedication, came in 2016 with the Cardinals. He powered through with 1,239 yards rushing, 16 rushing touchdowns, and an additional 879 yards receiving with four more touchdowns. Unfortunately, his journey was marred by an injury during a crucial Super Bowl matchup. This moment resonates with many of us who have experienced the highs and lows of fantasy football.
He played for the Cardinals, the Texans, and the Saints during his eight-year career. He contributed the most with the Cardinals because he was always the lead back in Arizona. When he was in Houston with the Texans his first year, he was the primary back, but that was when his career started to go downhill because running backs’ careers don’t last that long because they take the most hits. During his first year with Houston, he had 691 yards with six touchdowns, according to ESPN.com. In his second year, he only had 228 yards with no touchdowns. Surprisingly, the lead back that year for the Houston Texans was Rex Burkhead, according to ESPN.com.
Johnson had a great career for someone who only played for eight years. However, as I said in this article, running backs take the biggest beating regarding injuries. I hope Johnson enjoys his retirement and makes some lifelong memories with his family during his retirement.
