Rashee Rice gives Kansas City a lousy look amid police chase By: Grant Winsauer

NFL

According to ESPN.com, Rashee Rice was involved in a six-person crash. Luckily, most got away with minor injuries, but two people were hospitalized.

There are better looks than this for Rice, who the Kansas City Chiefs took in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. Rice is just coming off a Super Bowl win with the Chiefs as a rookie. During his rookie season, he had 79 receptions on 102 targets for 938 yards and seven touchdowns, according to ESPN.com. The only player to have more receiving yards for the Chiefs this season was Travis Kelce, with 984 yards on 93 receptions.

I don’t understand why Rice did this; players have made bad decisions before, and it derailed their careers. A few examples I could come up with are Jalen Carter and his street race. Now, it is worth noting that he is still playing in the league, but last year, before his incident, he was considered the best defender in the 2023 draft class, and many thought he would be a top- five draft pick. He ended up going to the Eagles at pick 10, but what surprised me the most was how quickly he signed his rookie deal. It surprised me because first-round draft picks usually take the longest to sign rookie deals because they want the most money.

Another example could be Henry Ruggs; he was a stud at Alabama and looked like the next great receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders. According to abcnews.com, Ruggs was clocked doing 156 MPH before slamming into a Toyota SUV, ultimately killing the driver. According to ESPN.com, Ruggs is facing a sentence of 3 to 10 years for his fatal DUI.

Rice did not kill anyone during his incident, so I don’t believe he will face jail time, but he could face suspension from games this upcoming season if he is charged with anything. According to Twitter, Rice and the other person racing decided to flee the scene after the crash happened, but it was not a good decision because police were looking for him.

I hope Rice’s career isn’t over because I think he has a really bright future ahead of him in the NFL, especially since he has Patrick Mahomes throwing the ball to him for the foreseeable future (if his career isn’t over). If Rice’s career isn’t over and he continues to play at a high level for the next few years with the Chiefs, I have no doubt in my mind that he will get a second contract with the Chiefs to be a part of their future for a long time.

If I could give NFL Players a piece of advice before or when they enter the NFL, it would be to avoid making stupid mistakes. I would tell them this because they probably have been working towards this their whole lives, and one silly mistake is worth throwing away your dream.
