Saban Says Sayonara: Alabama HC Retires After 17 Years By: Brody Sorbera
So, picture this: I'm hustling through my workday when suddenly, ESPN lights up with the kind of news that's rocking the college football universe! It's like the ultimate game-changer buzzing through the airwaves, a report from ESPN’s Chris Low that no one saw coming. Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban has chosen to hang it up after 17 years as the greatest College Football coach to ever grace the field. He leaves a legacy of 7 national championships (one at LSU), 11 SEC titles, 292 wins, and endless NFL talent to come out of his tenure. At age 72 he has accomplished all you can in football and certainly will go down as one of the greatest coaches in the history of football and college football will simply not be the same with him not on the sideline.
He leaves behind one of the greatest if not the greatest careers in College football history, 292 wins, 7 national championships (1 at LSU), 11 SEC championships, and 49 NFL first-round picks for the legend. The news came as a shock to many people who believed he still had some juice in the tank (including me) but at the same time with the changing landscape of the sport and his climbing up in age I could see why he decided to hang it up now, he has nothing left to prove and can enjoy the rest of his life with his legacy intact.
UPDATE: OK I had this piece finished and Alabama has announced they have Washington Head Coach Kalen Deboer, a man with a stellar record in his short time at Washington and is certainly a good grab, it wasn’t the Tide’s first choice as Oregon HC Dan Lanning and Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffen both have apparently turned them down to stay where they are at. Nonetheless, he should do a good job keeping the Tide relevant as 2024 looks to be a year of massive changes for all of College Football.
