Tampa Bay veteran Mike Evans stays put
According to a report by Mike Garofalo, Mike Evans will stay in Tampa Bay for another two years. According to ESPN.com, the deal is worth $52 million with $35 million guaranteed. Because of this extension, Evans will be paid among the top wideouts in the NFL. His $26 million a year will only be behind players like Tyreek Hill, Devante Adams, and Cooper Kupp. According to MSN.com, Hill gets paid $30 million a year, Adams gets paid $28.25 million per year, and Cooper Kupp gets paid $26.67 million per year. That is a good company based on each player’s production with their respective teams.
Now, the Buccaneers will shift their focus on signing Baker Mayfield to a long-term deal. Since the Buccaneers locked up Evans for the next two years, it should also help lock up Mayfield to a long-term contract. According to MSN.com, a Mayfield extension could be in the ballpark of a four-year $120 million with $53 million guaranteed. It would make sense for the Buccaneers to lock up Mayfield with Evans. According to MSN.com, Mayfield originally signed with the Buccaneers on a one-year $4 million prove-it deal. Mayfield certainly did that, passing for 4,044 yards with 28 touchdowns and ten interceptions. Evans accounted for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns for Mayfield. It wouldn’t be hard for people to say that Evans is the most consistent receiver the Buccaneers have had in the past decade. He was drafted in 2014, and ever since he entered the NFL, he has always had 1000 receiving yards regardless of who his quarterback has been. This is surprising because he has always played with underwhelming quarterbacks besides Tom Brady. Some quarterbacks he has played with include Mike Glennon, Josh McCown, and Jameis Winston. Evans will undoubtedly enter Canton based on his career once he calls it quits.
