Greetings! I’m Nick Fodera, the editor-in-chief of the Empty the Bench blog. Myself and the other podcast hosts will be using this space for content’s sake: think short columns, extended takes, network news and the like. Everything that won’t fit in a show, you’ll find here.

First: an introductory take from myself: it was really heartening to see the NFL come together in solidarity and support in the wake of Damar Hamlin’s injury. For all the hemming and hawing we’ve done in this space about how Roger Gooddell always screws things up, it really is remarkable how well the league and every single coach, player and staffer responded in the wake of what initially looked to be a harrowing scene. To me, it’s a reminder that football is a game, first and foremost. A dangerous and risky sport to be sure, but there is something to be said about how all the cynicism fell away and all that was left were the bonds of brotherhood for all the world to see. A cliche, maybe, but it still holds weight.
