Winning Ugly By: Hank Indictor
The Giants finally got their first win of the season. It only took their 7th quarter of the season to get a point. And while it was an ugly game. It's the NFL. You take whatever wins that you can get. Therefore, I felt more relieved than ecstatic when the G-Men needed this. But for now, let's get to the takeaways.
It's not always about how you start: Cliche as that sounds. The phrase still applies to this game. However, good lord, what an ugly start! Forget the fact that the Giants still had yet to score a point until the 3rd quarter, but they made Josh Dobbs look like the second coming of Patrick Mahomes. He threw for 221 yards and 1 TD. They also had trouble stopping James Connor, who ran for over 100 yards and scored a pair of TDs. In short, the Giants were losing to the equivalent of an XFL team, which was inexcusable if they had lost.
The defense adjusted in the 2nd half: After facing a 20-0 deficit when entering the locker room. Wink made fixes on his defensive schemes, and the Giants only allowed one TD the rest of the day.
Is Daniel Jones him?!: After struggling in the first half, Daniel Jones went off the rest of the way. He threw for 321 yards and 2 TDs in addition to a rushing TD for the Giants' first score. The game-tying TD to Hodgins, in particular, was a dime reminiscent of the one in the playoffs against Minnesota! Whether or not he's elite is debatable, but this comeback doesn't happen with a QB that stinks.
The Giants are a well-coached team. Let's ask ourselves this question? Do you think this comeback would happen if Joe Judge, Pat Shurmur, or that idiot who benched Eli is the HC? (yes, I'm still bitter about that, and no, I will not say his name. Why do you ask?) Let's be honest: even though the Giants are still slowly headed in the right direction, this game was a reminder that this is still a flawed team, and there's still work that needs to be done. But when Daboll assumed the playcalling duties in the 2nd half, it was evident that the Giants' offense had more of a rhythm and flow, and good coaches are the ones who find ways to make adjustments!
They won't come easy: As ugly as this win was, let's remember that the schedule only gets tougher from here. After all, it's off to San Francisco next. Not to mention, Saquon will likely be out due to a sprained ankle. I said the Giants needed to see how they could handle adversity, and all things considered, they did alright so far. Let's see what happens from here.
