College Football Week 1 Wrap-Up By: Brody Sorbera

We have officially concluded Week 1 of the CFB season, and we have a lot to talk about, from Florida State and Penn State (so far) delivering on the hype to Florida and Nebraska continuing to be a disappointment. Also, to wrap it up, Duke demolished No.9 ranked Clemson. Oh, and one more thing, PRIMETIME! Let's try to take this all in.

The Utes Go Gator Hunting

Let's start in Salt Lake City, where the Utah Utes looked to avenge a loss against Florida, and they did. From the beginning of the game, it was an all-Utah game. Even if half of the offense was backups, imagine what they could do if they were healthy. It didn't help that the Gators didn't look prepared from miscues on offense, questionable playcalling, and even an equipment violation (yes, you heard that correctly) when two players wore number 3 on the field, totally the sign of an organized and well-disciplined team, Utah simply showed why they belonged in the Top 15 as they aspire for a dark-horse candidacy for the College Football Playoff in which they will have to compete with a stout Pac-12. Meanwhile, if they don't this around, Florida is in danger of becoming the Nebraska of the south and speaking of Nebraska…

Oh Poor Sweet Nebraska

Oh, Nebraska, oh poor sweet Nebraska, you just wanted to be taken seriously again. When we thought you shed your choking label, you found yet another way to rip your fans' hearts out of their chest. With 5 minutes left, Nebraska had the ball driving down the field, leading by 7. They had the game won, and in Toronto Maple Leafs fashion, they turned into a pumpkin when it truly matters. They fumbled the ball with five minutes left, and Minnesota scored. Then Nebraska turned over the ball again with a minute left when they were almost to field goal range, and the Gophers got to kick the game-winner. I can't think of a more Nebraska way to lose. It's like Scott Frost never left. You know it's terrible in Lincoln when the fans are more excited for the volleyball team than the once powerhouse football program. Husker fans prepare to be the joke of an increasingly tougher Big 10. Indiana will surely make room for you in the basement.

Drew Allar Is Everything We Thought He Would Be

Now we go to Happy Valley, where my beloved Nittany Lions are finally looking to get over the hump. A lot of hype and expectations are going into this season with the man who has all of State College jumping, Drew Allar. And despite a few hiccups on the offensive line, Penn State had a great night on both sides of the ball and an excellent debut for Drew Allar, completing 21 out of 29 passes, 325 yards, and three touchdowns. Many expected the Mountaineers to roll over and die in this game, but they handled the raucous crowd well and put up a good fight (especially on defense). Despite being vastly overmatched on both sides of the ball, Penn State now aspires for greater things. They now have their sights set on winning over two familiar opponents that we, as Penn State fans, all know and hate and a chance at our first-ever Playoff appearance.

Noles Roll The Tigers

Everyone knew this would be a big game for the destines of both teams' seasons. Both are looking to return to the playoffs, and just because LSU lost doesn't mean their season is over, but the path became much tougher. Florida State was probably the most hyped team in the country for how well it did in the transfer portal, and the team that they brought together in the 2nd half exploded, and a close game turned into a blowout. LSU couldn't stop making mistakes, and the Noles took advantage of each to run away with the game 45-24. This Noles team looks incredible, reminding people of their 2013 championship squad.

Clemson Is In Deep Trouble

There is just no other way of saying this: What a humiliation! It was inexcusable that performance on Monday in a game they should've won easily. They led in yards, 1st downs, and time of possession by a mile, and they couldn't find their way to the endzone all game long. This Clemson team did not look like they belonged in the ranking, let alone going into this TOP 10 TEAM. On the other side of the ball, what an incredible performance by Duke, especially the defense, two fumbles recovered, one interception, two sacks, and six tackles for losses, and Duke's offense capitalized on each of Clemson's mistakes. This game was total domination, plain and simple. It will be a long season for the tigers because they have to host the red-hot Noles in a couple of weeks, which may get ugly.
