NFL News: Dak Prescott Wearing Walking Boot as Precaution By Grant Winsauer
According to ESPN.com, Dak Prescott was seen wearing a walking boot, but he reassured reporters that nothing was wrong and he was wearing it as a precaution.
Prescott is doing the right thing because, with him wearing the boot now, he should be healthy by training camp and fully healthy for the NFL season.
The Cowboys drafted Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and he has had a pretty good career with the Cowboys so far. According to ESPN.com, he has played in 114 games during his eight-year career, completing 2,595 of 3,873 passes for 29,459 yards, 202 touchdowns, and 74 interceptions.
When Prescott was drafted, he was originally supposed to be the backup to then-quarterback Tony Romo. However, Romo injured himself in the preseason, leading the Cowboys to name Prescott the starter.
Prescott has been a great quarterback for the Cowboys, but he needs to lead them deep into the playoffs. I understand they don’t have the most fantastic weapons outside of Ceedee Lamb, but great quarterbacks don’t always need the most incredible weapons to lead their team to the promised land. Look at Tom Brady. He didn’t always have the most outstanding supporting cast and won seven Super Bowls.
A lot is riding on Prescott this upcoming season because he is up for his next contract extension, but so are many of their pivotal pieces, like CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons. Suppose the Cowboys decide to stick with Prescott and extend him again. In that case, it will be interesting to see how much he asks for and how much the Cowboys are willing to give him because quarterback contracts have become very expensive as of late, so if Prescott wants a lot of money, he will need an outstanding season.
