Evan Neal vs. Don LaGreca and the New York Fans By: Hank Indictor
Don LaGreca just produced one of the greatest rants he's ever made. How classic was it? It tops his rant about the Mets not having a lifelong star (Google Ed Kranepool and Don LaGreca, and you'll know what I'm talking about). But how legendary was his rant? Well, you left your mark when you go viral and have snippets appear on shows such as Pat McAfee and Dan LeBatard. As a diehard fan of the New York Giants, I'm going to say it: LaGreca is spot on, and he speaks for all of us!
There is absolutely no defending the actions of Evan Neal after the Giants' humiliating loss on Monday Night Football to the Seattle Seahawks. He poured gasoline into the proverbial fire, gesturing for the fans to boo louder. In other words, the offensive lineman drafted 7th overall a year ago who continues to get treated like a Subway turnstile wants to start a war with the fans. I wish I could say it ended there, but then he had the audacity to say this to NJ.com a few days later. "Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep? The person that's commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?" I'M SORRY….WHAT?!?!?! As an NFL Player, when it comes to your actions off the field, there are certain actions you pick and choose. And battling with the fans is a no-win proposition, especially when you play in a market like New York. Not only that, but belittling other people's jobs when you make more money than most people will probably ever see is definitely in poor taste!
I'd say more about this, but let me list what LaGreca noted, which was absolutely gold! "Are you kidding me? I would cut his a**. These people pay your salary, they pay an obnoxious amount of money to park, an obnoxious amount for PSLs, and you call them hamburger flippers? I'd rather have a guy that's flipping hamburgers [be an offensive lineman] than your piece of garbage ass! Who the hell are you to talk to fans like that, you piece of garbage? I hate when players act like that and think they're better!"
Everything Don LaGreca said here is absolutely spot on. Daniel Jones has gotten an obscene number of sacks, 11 on Monday Night alone, and it's no thanks to Mr. Burger Flipper himself. Granted, this is an O-line that's completely banged up, but for him to mouth off at the fans after another lousy performance is unacceptable. Not only do fans like us (I slowly and without shame raise my hand to a certain extent) pay stupid money for parking and or tickets but regardless of whether you live in New York or New Jersey the commute to that Giant Air Conditioner (or stack of CD's whichever you prefer) is a Big Blue pain in the you know what. Aside from Rangers fans, the Giants have the most loyalty out of all the sports teams in the New York Metropolitan area. Think about it. When do you ever see MetLife empty when it's painted Blue? Also, the Season Ticket waiting lists are as big as those lines at Six Flags. LaGreca even said, "The fans were here before you, and they'll be here after your sorry a** is cut." And even when the notorious cockroaches like Eagles and Cowboys fans invade the dump, it's not like they can eliminate the home blues entirely. While I wouldn't necessarily call Neal a piece of trash, he could be the nicest guy in the world for all we know. He still gets no sympathy. Not when he gets paid more than most of us will ever see and not when he decides that starting a war with fans is a good idea. In other words, Evan Neal, ya done messed up, and if you want our respect back, you have a long way to go to earn it!
