New York Mets Pride Night 2023 by Jennifer Kate

Jen from What The Puck Podcast on the Empty The Bench Podcast Network. I am back with more LGBTQIA+ content. Today, I'll tell you guys all about my first time attending the New York Mets 2023 Pride Night on June 16.

Now I'm thinking I can technically count this as my first-ever Pride event, and to say I enjoyed it was an understatement. The Mets did an incredible job hosting this Pride night. It was beautiful in so many ways.

Let’s start with outside where you come down from the train. People were handing out free Pride flags, so it was a fun start. Then, once you went past security and showed your tickets, you got a Mets Pride fan.

Now this is where the fun part of the story starts. Once you go into the team store, right on display is Pride merchandise that included t-shirts (which I have two of), as well as Pride hats, lanyards, keychains and pins. I could you on and on about the merchandise.

When you came through the front entrance and up the main escalators, there was a Pride balloon arch, in which people could take pictures. Then once you got to your seats, all the advertising was all Pride colors and such, which for me, as someone who is a part of the LGBTQIA+, was a nice touch.

Then during the game, they honored members of the LGBTQIA+ community who, I believe, were either authors or writers (I can't remember). But again, a nice touch.

And I can’t go without mentioning my favorite Pride thing, which is the Coca-Cola sign that is lit up in Pride colors during the entirety of Pride month. And fireworks went off in Pride colors to end the night.

As far as the actual game is concerned, the Mets finally started to get hits, but their pitching struggled, which doesn’t surprise me as a Mets fan. Still, the Mets got back in the win column with a 6-1 win.

Overall, I can happily say the New York Mets Pride Night was a huge success and was super fun. It was not only Pride night, it was Friday Night DJ Night. As Mets fans know, every Friday Citi Field has a live DJ, so it was such a fun and exciting atmosphere.

This event has me looking forward to NYC Pride on June 25.

Happy Pride Month to all those who celebrate. I will be back with another Pride blog soon — either a second part of the other blog where I talked about how major brands are handling Pride month, or it will be my blog reacting to NYC Pride.
