NFL News: Brandon Aiyuk Contract Drama Comes To An End By Grant Winsauer
According to Ian Rapoport, the Brandon Aiyuk drama ended late last night when he agreed to a massive contract extension.
The contract is a four-year extension worth $120 million. Aiyuk has voiced his opinion about getting an extension since the offseason began. He requested a trade, and both parties agreed to compensation. The only thing stopping it was that Aiyuk would agree to the contract the other team offered him.
Aiyuk will take the next few weeks of practice preparing for his week one matchup against the Jets at 8:15 p.m. ET on September 9th. He will have a lot of ground to make up in the next ten days, but I am optimistic that Aiyuk will be ready and well-suited for week one.
The 49ers still need a massive piece on their offense: franchise tagging Trent Williams. Williams wants more money, and I don’t know where the 49ers will get it because they have a lot of money invested in many of their other pieces on offense and defense.
I still believe Williams will end up suiting up for Week 1 with the 49ers, but I don’t know how happy he will be about it. He deserves more money since he is among the NFL’s best tackles.
The 49ers have a great core of players locked up for the future, and the 49ers will be Super Bowl contenders for a long time. They should make it back to the Super Bowl again this year. It is also entirely possible that we will see a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl with the Chiefs making it back again. If I had to pick between either team to win, I would probably choose the Chiefs because a three-peat in the NFL would be cool, but I wouldn’t be upset if the 49ers won either.
