NFL News: Chiefs ink Travis Kelce to new contract extension By Grant Winsauer

NFL

Ian Rapoport reported this past Monday that the Kansas City Chiefs and superstar tight end agreed to a two-year contract extension.

According to NFL.com, the deal is worth $34.25 million. Under this new deal, he will stay in Kansas City through 2027 and receive a $4 million raise. Kelce has been Patrick Mahomes’s most reliable and favorite target since Mahomes was named the Starter for the Chiefs in 2018.

With the Chiefs having the Mahomes and Kelce duo for at least another three years, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see them in another two Super Bowls, maybe more.

During last week's NFL draft, the Chiefs added some weapons to the offense in wideout Xavier Worthy. They did this because the NFL may suspend a second-year receiver for a hit-and-run accident a few weeks before the draft. The Chiefs took Worthy with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to Bleacherreport.com, the Chiefs gave up No. 32, No. 95, and No. 221 to acquire No. 28, No. 133, and No. 248 to draft Worthy.  With his speed, insiders are comparing him to Tyreek Hill. At the combine, Worthy ran a 4.21 40-yard dash. When everyone found out that Worthy had broken the record, Lucas Oil Stadium went crazy.

Even with the Chiefs not having the best receiver core the past few years after trading away Hill to the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs have still been the team to beat in the NFL. This is because superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes can make anyone on his offense look like the best player at their position because of the amount of talent Mahomes has. It also is a significant advantage that he has one of the best offensive minds calling the plays in Andy Reid.
