NFL News: Harrison Butker Inks New Extension with Chiefs By Grant Winsauer
Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Harrison Butker agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. The contract is worth $25.6 million and guarantees $17.75 million.
This contract makes him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL right now, and he certainly deserves it. According to ESPN.com, he was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has played in 46 total games. During those games, he made 197 out of 221 field goals.
If you do the math, that is an 89.1 percent rate. That is outstanding, and the only player to be higher than that is Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, with his being 90.2, according to ESPN.com. It is worth noting that Tucker has been in the league longer, but Butker is right behind him, and I have a feeling that it will stay that way until one of them begins to decline in production.
The Chiefs were smart to lock up Butker for four more years because if they had let him walk, he might have gotten more money from a different team and would have made sure to show up against the Chiefs to show what they let go.
It is important to note that Butker did the negotiations on this contract all by himself and doesn’t have to give any of that money to an agent. Chiefs fans should be thrilled that they have Butker locked up for the next four years because finding a consistent kicker is one of the hardest things to see in the NFL, and once a team does find one, they make sure to keep him around for the long haul.
Butker is here to stay in Kansas City for a long time and will hopefully get a few more rings.
