NFL News: J.J. McCarthy Out For Rookie Year With A Meniscus Injury By Grant Winsauer
Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that J.J. McCarthy is out for his rookie year due to a meniscus tear that he suffered against the Raiders last week.
This is too bad because when he played against the Raiders, he had a pretty good stat line: he completed 11-of-17 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
However, the Vikings organization and fanbase should be happy that this injury was discovered now because they believe he will be their long-term starting quarterback after recovering from his injury.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Vikings' quarterback room plays out because, according to ESPN.com, Sam Darnold is listed as quarterback one on the depth chart. With Nick Mullens and Jared Hall behind him, Darnold is the team’s best option on the roster for this season.
I admit that I have been one of those people who have written off Darnold as a good quarterback because of the situations he has been in. He is coming into his best situation yet with Minnesota's weapons.
The NFC North division has all very good teams in it, and I can speak for all football fans that this is an exciting division to watch because each team has a core of players who will be on that team for a very long time. That makes the NFC North one of the most exciting divisions.
I am mourning for Vikings fans because if Darnold struggles during the regular season, the Vikings may be the worst team in the NFC North. Now, there is no chance of McCarthy replacing Darnold to give Vikings Fans hope for this season. I wish McCarthy a speedy recovery.
