Ruth Handler And Mattel Make Barbie A Real Girl ~ My Thoughts On The Barbie Movie By: Jennifer Kate
So, guys, I'm back with another blog, and this time I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on the Barbie Movie I just saw.
Let's get right into my thoughts and opinions cause I have a lot to say about this movie. I would be lying if I told you I walked into that movie theater with little to no expectations because I wasn't sure what to expect. The Barbie Movie blew me away with the underrated storytelling, and the character casting was just absolute perfection. Now let's talk about the cast of this movie—Margot Robbie, who played the starring role known as Barbie. Robbie was the perfect person to play Barbie; if I'm honest with you guys if they had cast anyone else, that whole movie would not have been the same. Margo Robbie's acting was fantastic. I thought it told the story of adult Barbie, which is what this movie talks about.
I can't forget the performance of Ryan Gosling, who played Ken. I enjoyed the comedic value that Gosling brought to this movie. Now there is one little downside to Gosling's performance as Ken; he can't sing on the pitch to save him in this movie. Thank god for auto-tune. But overall, his acting and his character's depth were amazing. Now let's talk about some of the supporting cast because they told the story. I told some friends the movie wouldn't have been the same if they had cast anyone else in those roles.
Oh shoot, I forgot that this movie has one more big name. You've been living under a rock if you don't know this name. Will Farrell was cast as Mr. Mattel. His character was hilarious and added a much-needed comedic base to a movie that talks about weighty political topics.
There are many more cast members of this movie that I can talk about, but I would be here for days. I want to get into the plot line of this movie, so if you haven't seen it yet or don't want any spoilers, I would stop reading here. So basically, as you get a little bit into the movie, you see this scene where Barbie starts to have feelings of death, and she is sad. Then basically, stereotypical Barbie has to go find Weird Barbie, who sends her into a "portal," which is the "real" world as we know it today. She has these almost flashback-style clips in her head where she sees the "little girl" she is supposed to be looking for, and it turns out it wasn't the "little girl" who needed Barbie; it was the mom. In the end, we see that Barbie doesn't want to be with Ken, and we also see that Barbie doesn't know where she belongs in life. It's a very moving and powerful scene at the movie's end. We get to see Ruth Handler, the original creator of Barbie.
My favorite part of the movie was the storytelling of how Barbie came to be, and they showed a lot of the older Barbies that have been discontinued, and we get to see how Ruth Handler came up with Barbie. Also, the excellent character casting in this movie made it what it was. I was telling my boyfriend, Hank Indictor, who some of you may know from Hitting For The Cycle or being a former co-host of Game On here on the Empty The Bench Podcast Network, that if they had cast anyone else for these roles besides who they picked, this movie wouldn't have been what it was. If you haven't seen this movie already, I would see it, but fair warning that it is fitted for its rating and is not for the younger audience as they won't understand most of the topics discussed in this movie.
This wraps it up for this blog. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you guys enjoy reading my blogs as much as I enjoy writing these for you guys.
