Tom Bergeron Claims Scapegoating By: Jennifer Kate
Well, guys, I'm back, and today, I have yet another interesting blog for you. Today, we will talk about Tom Bergeron's sudden exit from dancing with the stars and all the tea that goes along with this crazy story, so buckle up because this will be a good one. But before we do that, allow me to introduce myself to new readers. Hi, I'm Jennifer Kate, a Blogger, For, Empty The Bench Podcast Network
Alright, before we jump straight into the meat and potatoes of this blog, let me give you guys some background information first so everyone can understand the whole situation, and then I will get into all the other tea involved in this. So, to kick this off, Tom Bergeron hosted Dancing With The Stars from 2005 to 2020. Before I go into this, I want to say that this situation took place in 2020 quickly. Still, it's only surfacing now because Tom Bergeron opened up about the problem with DWTS on a podcast called "Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans" hosted by former Dancing With The Stars pro Cheryl Burke.
Let's get right into the tea because I know that is what you all are waiting for. So in 2019, Bergeron claimed that Dancing With The Stars executives sought lunches to discuss the upcoming season. With the United States headed into a contentious election year, he recommended that the execs refrain from casting any politicians from either party to provide viewers with a "wonderful escape" from the state of the country. Though they agreed, Bergeron recalled getting a "phone call from the showrunner and another producer" who told him a list of celebrities and public figures set to compete on the show. The showrunner then said that he may want to sit down for the name they were about to say. They were alluding to ex-White House press secretary Sean Spicer. Then Bergeron recalled saying, "Guys, this is exactly what we said we wouldn't do." He added, "Don't go there. This is, you know, not the right time; play to our strengths, be the show that gives people a break from all this bull". Bergeron then attempted to compromise; he suggested he "take the season off," to which the showrunner and the producer offered to "let him out of his contract if he wanted." He then said, "That's how strongly they felt" "really pissed me off."
I want to quickly give my opinion on what I feel about this, and just a fair warning, this might be slightly controversial. This was the best choice for Dancing With The Stars because I think some of you may know the new host from the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, whose name is Alfonso Ribeiro. Alfonso is a better fit for being the Dancing With The Stars host because he has a better personality, is very quick-witted, and brings more light-heartedness to Dancing With The Stars, which this show desperately needs. Now, I don't dislike Tom Bergeron because I absolutely loved him as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos. But let me get back into my take on this situation because I understand why he felt like talking about politics might upset views and lower viewer numbers. I know why the producers might want to bring more attention to the show by bringing on the politicians.
But let's be honest, as I said, the show is better the way it is now, and I could also get into the removal of Tyra Banks, but that's a story for a different day. But anyway, that about wraps it up for this blog. Let me know your thoughts on social media. Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed it, and I will catch you guys in the next one.
