NFL News: Bo Nix Named Broncos Starter By Grant Winsauer

NFL

It was reported by Ian Rapoport Wednesday that the Denver Broncos have named the No. 12 overall draft pick, Bo Nix, as their new starting quarterback.

This is no surprise because Nix is the best option for the Broncos this season and their future as an organization. People said that if anyone could succeed in Sean Payton’s system, it would be Nix.

According to ESPN.com, Nix passed for 205 yards, throwing two touchdowns and committing no turnovers. That is very impressive, given that he was the last quarterback drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, what impressed me the most so far with Nix is the fact that he passed for that many yards when he was running with the twos and threes during his preseason action.

With him getting little action from the starters during the preseason, it will be interesting to see how his first few games go because there will be some rookie mistakes. Nix played college ball for five years, so he has the most experience out of all the quarterbacks that came out of this draft (Michael Penix Jr. was in college for five years but didn’t play all those years because of injuries). Nix's experience will help him, and he has one of the best offensive-minded coaches in Sean Payton, so that always helps.

The Broncos should be one of the more exciting teams to watch this upcoming season because they improved certain question mark positions last season. They got younger at many positions, too, which is a good thing because while having veterans’ benefits and not having to rush a rookie development, they will eat up a lot of your cap space if you have a bunch of veterans. Depending on their age, they might only finish their contract with you after wanting to leave or retire.
