NFL News: D.J. Moore Signs Massive Contract Extension with Chicago Bears By Grant Winsauer
Late Tuesday night, Ian Rapoport reported that D.J. Moore signed a massive four-year $110 million contract extension with the Chicago Bears.
Moore still has two years left on his previous contract with the Carolina Panthers, so he is locked in with Chicago for the next six years. This contract extension shows that Moore believes in what the Bears see with Caleb Williams because Moore will be in Chicago until Williams’ rookie contract is up.
According to ESPN.com, Moore has played in 97 games so far and has 460 receptions on 752 targets for 6,565 yards with 29 receiving touchdowns. He had career numbers last year with 96 catches on 136 targets and 1,364 yards with nine total touchdowns. With Caleb Williams as the starting quarterback, these numbers are only destined to be the same, or they could go up a little bit. However, the numbers could decrease with the additions of Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze.
I was very surprised when I saw that this extension was finalized because there wasn’t even a report that the Bears were in contact with Moore. It is impressive that he got an extension like that, even though he has been with the Bears for only one season.
What I like the most about this extension is the fact that this was not a market reset kind of contract. The Bears got him for a steal at $27.5 million per year when there are other wideouts in discussions for extensions who want around $35 million per year, so getting Moore on a deal like this is going to look like a steal when other players like CeeDee Lamb, Ja’Marr Chase, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tyreek Hill could make around $35-to 40 million dollars per year. When they sign their extensions, Moore’s looks like a steal.
