NFL News: Jets Release Defensive Back Tae Hayes After Arrest By Grant Winsauer

According to Adam Schefter, New York Jets defensive back Tae Hayes was released from the team after being arrested for marijuana possession.

Hayes went undrafted in 2019 and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released before the start of the 2019 season. According to ESPN.com, he has played for five teams in his four years. Those five teams were the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and, most recently, the New York Jets.

Also, according to ESPN.com, Hayes has played in 18 games across his four-year career. From his stats, it looks like he has been a career backup so far, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what his role on his next team will be (if he gets another shot with a new team).

I say that Hayes will be a backup again because usually when players go undrafted, they end up going from getting a chance to prove they deserve a spot on the team to be on the team’s practice squad.  The good news is if a player on the team gets injured at their position, the team must call up players on the practice squad to play in their place until they are healthy again.

It will be interesting to see if a team gives him a second chance after his arrest because what goes to say he won’t do something like this again? This is not me saying that I don’t believe he should get another chance to play in the NFL. I think sometimes, when players have an illegal substance in certain states, even though they got caught once, it doesn’t mean that they won’t try to get that same drug again in the future.

Whatever happens with Hayes, we wish him luck in his future endeavors.
