NFL News: Nico Collins gets an extension with Houston Texans By Grant Winsauer
On Tuesday, Ari Meirov reported that Nico Collins agreed to a three-year extension worth $72 million with the Houston Texans.
This is great for Collins because it ensures he will be around with C.J. Stroud for the next three years. According to ESPN.com, the Texans' top three receivers will be Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell. Stroud thrived as a rookie without Diggs on the team, so his stats should improve with Diggs coming into this receiver room.
Collins had a great season with Stroud at the helm. His numbers will decrease slightly with Diggs being added to the roster, but Stroud likes to spread the ball. According to ESPN.com, Collins had 80 receptions on 109 targets for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns last season. In his short career in the NFL, he has played 39 games and totaled 150 receptions on 235 targets for 2,224 yards and 11 touchdowns as a third-round draft pick in 2021. It is important to note that Collins had played with multiple lackluster quarterbacks like Davis Mills before Stroud.
With stats like that in a single season, this extension is well-deserved for Collins. He will be exciting to watch next season, and it will be interesting to see what type of numbers he puts up next season because sometimes, after players get paid, their production begins to go down. I don’t see that happening because Stroud is throwing the ball, and it is right where it needs to be for his receivers to catch it.
The Texans will be an exciting team to watch again next season. With all their improvements on offense and defense, they will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. The Texans should be able to go deep into the playoffs like last year, and Texans fans should be excited.
