NFL News: Tyson Campbell Reaches Agreement to Stay with The Jaguars By Grant Winsauer

NFL

Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Tyson Campbell and the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed on a four-year extension worth $76.5 million.

According to ESPN.com, the Jaguars drafted Campbell in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In his three-year career, Campbell has played in 43 games and has 204 total tackles, 146 of which were solo and 58 assisted tackles. He also has six interceptions so far in his career. Campbell played his college career at Georgia, and he is still only 24 years old, so he is in the prime of his career and could still get one more significant contract after the one he is on expires because he will be 28.

This is a good extension for the Jaguars to give to Campbell, as having a standout corner is very important for a successful football team. I wonder about these cornerback extensions because some other standout corners, like L’Jarius Sneed, signed a similar contract with the Titans worth $76.4 million. Jaylon Johnson signed a four-year extension with the Chicago Bears worth $76 million. None of these contracts are market resetting types of extensions. I am just curious why that is because they all have had excellent careers so far, and they will continue improving their game during this contract.

Campbell dealt with some injuries this past season, only playing 11 games. He dealt with a hamstring injury last season, but he still managed to put up 61 total tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception.

If Campbell can stay healthy this upcoming season, he will have a great season. He should show that the Jaguars were wise to give him the extension they did. He will have a breakout season.
